Short Courses

The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) offers already designed and tailor made short courses in a wide range of agricultural related disciplines and cross-cutting issues including governance of natural resources, gender and rural development, mass media, research design and methodology, and short course on Management of Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture (MNRSA)

Provision of Short Courses

Short courses offered at SUA cover a wide range of disciplines that reflect organization of the University into various colleges, centers, institutes, directorates and schools. These include College of Agriculture, College of Veterinary Medicines and Biomedical Sciences, College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism, and Solomon Mahlangu College of Science and Education.

 

Other Units include School of Agricultural Economics and Business Studies, Sokoine University Pest Management Centre, Directorate of Postgraduate, Research, Technology Transfer and Consultancies; Directorate of Undergraduate Studies, Sokoine University Library, Centre of Information and Communication Technology and Institute of Continuing Education.

Short courses include those that are already designed or tailor made. In both cases, course designing includes preparation of manuals for participants, materials and demonstrations depending on the nature of the training.

A number of already designed short courses are offered at SUA. Examples of such short courses which are regularly offered at SUA include those on

  • Horticultural crop propagation
  • Food processing
  • Dairy cattle farming
  • Beef cattle farming
  • Pasture management
  • Statistics
  • Information CommunicationTechnology (ICT )
  • Beekeeping

The ICE offers short courses by engaging experts in various disciplines available at SUA. Also, SUA units are encouraged to collaborate with the ICE in offering at least two short courses annually and benefit in the following ways:

  • Designing advertisement and announcing short courses via websites and other media
  • Supporting designing course content and delivery that draws on experiences of the participants for effective communication with them
  • Providing expertize for monitoring and evaluation of short course
  • Sharing cost of hiring conference rooms
